LEGAL CONTEXT OF DESIGN - INTRO TO ENGLISH LAW

On 09/10/14 we were taught the DISTINCTIONS IN LAW which were as follows:

By the seriousness of offences:

1) Civil law - if the defendant is found liable, the defendant is required to remedy or to make reparations

2) Criminal law - is when the accused is convicted of crime, the accused is punished or penalised

By the source of law:

1) Statute law - written laws that are made in the states' legislature; in the UK it is the Parliament

2) Commmon law - all other law that is not written down; rules derived solely from custom and precedent are rules of common law

In addition to this we learnt that within your profession you must become acquainted with the parts of the law which are relevant to you. I'm not expected to know all of the law but enough so that I do not get myself or any clients of mine or my practice into trouble.
