Assignment 1 - Party Wall
The Assignment Brief (to be read in conjunction with the attached site plan)
Your Client Mr Smith of (No.12) is proposing to build a two storey extension
(basement and ground floor hatched grey) at the rear of his semi-detached house 2.9m away from his neighbour’s house (No.14). Neighbour’s house does not have a basement.
Mr Smith is also proposing to convert his existing loft (hatched green) to form an additional bedroom. This will involve upgrading the strength of the existing floor by the installation of steel beam (with concrete padstone) with bearing onto the Party Wall.
Requirements:
1. Explain to your Client impact of Party Wall etc. Act 1996 on his proposed
development, procedures and possible costs.
2. Prepare adequate Notice in respect of two storey extension at the rear of the
property.
3. Prepare adequate Notice in respect of the loft conversion.
